The present work examines the use of a non-edible oil namely honne oil, a new possible source of alternative fuel for diesel engines. The most detrimental parameter in the use of vegetable oil as diesel fuel is its higher viscosity. The viscosity of honne oil can be reduced by blending it with diesel fuel. Experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance, emission, and combustion characteristics of a diesel engine typically used in agricultural sector over the entire load range when fuelled with honne oil/diesel fuel blends: H10 (10% honne oil + 90% diesel fuel) to H50. The engine performance, emission, and combustion characteristics of fuel blend H20 are found to be close to diesel fuel, whereas higher blend ratios are found to be inferior to diesel fuel.
