PtCo-based MEAs were subjected to a specific drive cycle simulating the operation of a fuel cell vehicle resulting in performance degradation. Further testing on both Pt-only and PtCo-based MEAs were performed to understand the potentials that cause damage to the catalyst. Post mortem analysis utilizing scanning and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy of MEAs was carried out to determine the degree of Pt dissolution in the membrane.
