A copper-complex fragments-substituted beta-octamolybdate, K-2[{Cu(phen)}(4)Mo6O22][Mo8O26] center dot 2H(3)O (1) (phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline), has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized for the first time. Compound I is constructed from transition-metal-substituted dilacunary beta-octamolybdate fragment [{Cu(phen)}(4)Mo6O22] and [beta-Mo8O26](4-) cluster to form one-dimensional (1D) linear chain. Furthermore, magnetic measurements show weak ferromagnetic interactions for compound 1. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
