The editor sent an email stating:
I regret to inform you that we have been unsuccessful in getting your paper reviewed. Your paper was sent to a referee who has not provided any review of your paper.

After two years of submission, I was informed that the reviewer did not review it. Although the overall review process for pure mathematics usually takes more than a year, this is the first time I have encountered such a situation.
