The European Commission has launched the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH) to support the digital transformation of the cultural heritage sector. This initiative aims to provide cultural institutions a platform for collaboration, data exchange, and access to advanced digital tools. The ECCCH will focus on user needs and inclusivity, ensuring all institutions benefit from this open and secure platform. This project will ultimately foster innovation and research in the cultural heritage field.
SITAR is a technique for automatically fixing broken low-level test scripts used for GUI applications. When a GUI changes, these scripts often stop working because they rely on specific button placements or outputs. SITAR uses a multi-step approach to repair these scripts. First, it analyzes the script to understand its intent. Then, it creates a map of the application's workflow and uses this map, along with user input, to fix the broken parts of the script. Finally, it generates a new, functional test script. This approach can repair a significant portion (41-89%) of broken scripts, and the effort required for human input decreases as SITAR learns from previous fixes.

In this study, scientists developed a user-friendly software tool (GUI) for a specific particle accelerator (SSRF storage ring) to measure the beta function (a key parameter). Yotta released a new AI model, Tera, which surpasses prior models in three aspects: answer quality, scale of direct answers, and data freshness (up-to-date to April 2023). This research tackles a frustrating problem - internet congestion! Traditional network algorithms struggle to keep up with ever-growing demand. The authors propose a new solution: the SDCC algorithm, which leverages the "software-defined" approach (SDN) to networks. SDN offers a centralized view of the network, allowing for more efficient congestion control. The study even considers differences between data types (TCP vs UDP) for better congestion judgement. They successfully simulated the algorithm's effectiveness. While this is a win for smoother internet traffic flow, the authors acknowledge room for improvement. Personally, I appreciate their focus on fairness and accuracy in data flow selection. As someone who relies heavily on a smooth internet connection, I find this research promising for a more frustration-free online experience!
This is an article about the changing landscape of scientific publishing. It discusses the rise of open access publishing and the challenges it creates. Traditionally, scientific articles were published in journals funded by scientific societies. Peer review was an essential part of this process. Now, for-profit publishers are entering the market, charging authors fees to publish open-access articles. This can create a barrier for scientists who are not well-funded. The article argues that this shift in publishing could negatively affect science by limiting the diversity of voices and research published.

The authors propose a new method, "generalized STIRAP," that's faster and more robust. It also works better with complex systems than other methods. This research is valuable for designers, policymakers, and researchers as it questions traditional user studies and highlights the role of the design environment. Personally, I find it fascinating how seemingly objective processes like design can be influenced by unexpected factors.
