Summary: This study examines the portrayal of Palestinian-Israeli women in media and how it contributes to community members' realization of their capabilities. The researchers compared the frequency and context of appearances between different media institutions and technologies and analyzed the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of Palestinian-Israeli women using the capabilities-approach. Semi-structured qualitative interviews with 15 Palestinian-Israeli women were also conducted to better understand the impact of media representation on their capabilities. The findings suggest that Israeli broadcasting hinders the full realization of six distinct capabilities for Palestinian-Israeli women, negatively affecting their wellbeing.

State context and response to the pandemic played a role in mitigating these effects.
