Summary: This study aimed to evaluate longitudinal changes in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) after artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) implantation in patients undergoing radiation therapy (RT) compared to those in non-irradiated patients. The results showed that LUTS in patients with a history of pelvic RT deteriorated gradually after AUS implantation, while there was no significant change in LUTS in patients without a history of pelvic RT.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of extracorporeal plasma therapy (EPT) in adult native kidney patients with primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). The overall response rate of EPT was 56%, with a long-term benefit of 46%. PE showed a higher response rate compared to other therapies. Evaluation: 8/10.

Summary: This study investigates the association between dietary inflammation index (DII) and bone density and osteoporosis in different femoral areas. The results show that high DII is independently associated with declined bone mineral density (BMD) and an increased risk of osteoporosis in all femoral areas, except trochanteric area in non-Hispanic White population. The association between DII and osteoporosis does not differ significantly in subjects with or without impaired kidney function.

Summary: Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is a severe complication with high morbidity and mortality, and current therapeutic strategies are ineffective. Apelin-13, a physiological regulator, has antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic properties. Our study found that apelin expression levels were decreased in kidney tissues and cells during contrast media treatment. Apelin-13 protected against renal tubule damage in both in vitro and in vivo models of CI-AKI by alleviating endoplasmic reticulum stress, reactive oxygen species, and apoptosis. The downregulation of endoplasmic reticulum stress played a critical role in the antiapoptotic effect of apelin-13. These findings provide insights into the mechanisms of apelin-13 in regulating CI-AKI and offer a potential target for CI-AKI prevention.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the applicability of different bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) equations on estimating fat free mass (FFM) in Chinese subjects and compare the differences in hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients with healthy controls. The results showed that the equations differed between hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients, and were not suitable for peritoneal dialysis patients. It is recommended to develop a specific BIA equation from the dialysis population.

Summary: This study found that a baseline dietary protein intake (DPI) less than 0.60g/kg/day was associated with worse outcomes in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. PD patients with a DPI of 0.61-0.79g/kg/day had significantly negative nitrogen balance. There was a longitudinal association between time-dependent DPI and survival in PD patients, with consistently low DPI being correlated with increased death risk.

Summary: This study investigated the expression and role of a lncRNA, MALAT1, and a miRNA, miR-30c, in vascular calcification (VC). The results showed that MALAT1 promoted VSMCs calcification, at least partially through regulating the miR-30c/Runx2 axis.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between blood bone metabolic biomarkers and anemia in chronic kidney disease patients and analyzed the effects of parathyroidectomy on these indices. The results showed that blood bone metabolic biomarkers were associated with anemia severity and correction of bone metabolic disorders may be a therapeutic strategy for anemia treatment.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a severe complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) that lacks effective treatment strategies. Ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1) has been shown to improve DKD, but its mechanism is unclear. This study found that Rg1 alleviates renal injury and fibrosis by inhibiting NOX4 and MAPK signaling in T2DM-induced DKD.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the predictive value of the C-Reactive Protein to Albumin ratio (CAR) for six-month mortality in incident hemodialysis (HD) patients. The results demonstrated that higher CAR was significantly associated with a higher mortality risk in the first six months of HD, highlighting the prognostic importance of malnutrition and inflammation in these patients.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease is a common complication of diabetes and is now the leading cause of end-stage kidney disease. The pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease is complex, with oxidative stress playing a central role. High glucose levels increase the production of reactive oxygen species, leading to enhanced oxidative stress and activation of various signaling pathways that induce cell apoptosis, inflammation, autophagy, and fibrosis in the kidney, ultimately resulting in kidney injury. Traditional Chinese medicine has unique advantages in preventing and treating diabetic kidney disease due to its multi-target, multi-component, and multi-pathway characteristics. Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of Chinese herbs and patent medicines in treating diabetic kidney disease. This review provides evidence for the role of oxidative stress in diabetic kidney disease pathogenesis and the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine intervention.

Summary: This study explores the role of long noncoding RNA taurine-up-regulated gene 1 (TUG1) in tubular fibrosis caused by high glucose and its target genes. Results show that downregulation of TUG1 contributes to renal injury and fibrosis, while overexpression of TUG1 alleviates these effects through the miR-145-5p/DUSP6 axis. These findings provide insights into the mechanism of diabetic nephropathy and potential therapeutic targets.
