Summary: Coral reefs are facing unprecedented conditions, with degraded water quality becoming a common characteristic. Recent evidence from urban reefs suggests that the role of herbivores in maintaining coral dominance may be changing. A study on a turbid urban reef found that although herbivore biomass, size-structure, and grazing rates were reduced, coral cover remained high compared to a nearby protected reef. This was due to the dominance of corals tolerant of low light conditions. The study highlights the importance of considering the environmental context in understanding ecosystem function on future reefs.

Summary: Human activities can be a threat to wildlife species, but there are also species that can benefit from and adapt to urbanization. This study evaluated the density variation of chimango caracara in central Argentina and found that urbanization and climate affected their detection and density. The highest densities of chimango caracara were observed in suburban habitats, indicating successful adaptation to urbanized environments. These findings suggest that anthropogenic disturbance may not always have negative effects on bird species with flexible behaviors.

Summary: Traditional marketplaces in Ghana are being targeted for urban redevelopment, but issues related to resettlement are hindering developers and traders. This study provides practical solutions to address these issues, using the Kejetia Project as a case study. Findings show that resistance to relocation and doubts about reallocation are major concerns for local authorities and affected traders, while psychological stress is a significant effect on the traders. The study recommends collaborative implementation of the solutions for sustainable change.

Summary: The urban lockdown during COVID-19 has had a significant impact on residents' mental health. However, little research has been done on the role of neighborhood factors on residents' mental health during and after the lockdown. A study in Wuhan, the first city hit by the outbreak, used multiple linear regression and XGBoost algorithms to analyze the emotional status and distribution of residents. The study aimed to identify the moderating effect of neighborhood environment on emotional positivity and the marginal effect of neighborhood environment on residents' emotions. Results showed that specific neighborhood characteristics had varying effects on residents' positive emotions before and after the lockdown. The study emphasizes the importance of planning and managing neighborhoods to promote resilience during future public health crises.

This paper proposes a new approach to empirically investigate public value conflicts in urban space, using a mixed-methods approach and a case study in Hamburg, Germany. The study identifies 19 general public values and nine archetypical conflicts, and proposes a new conceptual model of 'Public Value Spheres' to better account for the value-laden nature of urban space.

Summary: This study examines the influence of a city's institutional design, public and private actor composition, and resource availability on the decision to invest in communities with higher social needs. The findings indicate that in neighborhoods where more than 51% of families are low-to-moderate income, the likelihood of receiving funds increases with the share of low-income population relative to the city's, but at a diminished rate compared to non-low-to-moderate income tracts.
