Exploring published and novel pre-treatment CT and PET radiomics to stratify risk of progression among early-stage non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with stereotactic radiation

Summary: The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of disease progression in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients after receiving definitive stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). The results showed that tumor diameter and SUVmax were the most frequently reported features associated with progression/survival, and a re-fitted model including these two features had the best performance.

Comparative effectiveness of new treatment modalities for localized prostate cancer through patient-reported outcome measures

Summary: There is a lack of comparative effectiveness research on new treatment modalities for localized prostate cancer. This study aimed to compare the impact of active surveillance, robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and real-time brachytherapy using Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). The results showed that active surveillance had the fewest side effects, but led to significant deterioration in sexual and physical health, while showing moderate improvement in mental health. RARP had greater urinary incontinence, and IMRT and real-time brachytherapy were associated with worse bowel symptoms. Most side effects seemed to be limited to short-term deteriorations.

3D multi-modality Transformer-GAN for high-quality PET reconstruction

Summary: This paper proposes a method for high-quality SPET reconstruction using low-dose PET images and T1 acquisitions from MRI. It extracts local spatial features from different modalities using separate CNN encoders and integrates these features effectively using a multimodal feature integration module. It further uses a Transformer-based encoder to extract global semantic information and a CNN decoder to transform the encoded features into SPET images. Additionally, a patch-based discriminator and an edge-aware loss are applied to retain edge detail information in the reconstructed SPET images. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms current state-of-the-art methods in reconstructing high-quality SPET images.

Accuracy of 3-D Surface Rendering of 2-D Ultrasound Images of the Uterus Using a Novel Software in Mapping Uterine Fibroids

Summary: This study assessed the accuracy of 3-D surface rendering of 2-D ultrasound images of the uterus using FMRA software for mapping uterine fibroids compared to pathological evaluation. The results showed good correlation between the two methods in terms of fibroid size and location. Inter-observer analysis also demonstrated reproducibility of measurements from two sonologists using the 3-D model.

The results show that most lesions identified as PD by RECIST criteria do not represent recurrence, highlighting the limitations of RECIST in this setting.

Curative carbon ion radiotherapy in a head and neck mucosal melanoma series: Facing the future within multidisciplinarity

However, further prospective trials are needed to assess the role of targeted/immune- systemic therapy in this disease.

Preoperative CT radiomics of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and lymph node to predict nodal disease with a high diagnostic capability

Summary: This study aimed to develop CT radiomics models to preoperatively identify lymph node (LN) status in resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. The results showed that the combined model, integrating ESCC and LN radiomics features with clinical features, had the highest predictive ability among the three models. The combined model's predictive ability was validated in both the test and external validation cohorts.

A dose calculation algorithm for boron neutron capture therapy using convolution/superposition method

Pitfalls in Prostate MR Imaging Interpretation

Radiologists need to thoroughly study prostate imaging and be aware of potential pitfalls. Additional sequences can improve tumor detection sensitivity. This study emphasizes the importance of recognizing factors that complicate prostate MR imaging interpretation.
