Summary: Maladaptive daydreaming refers to excessive immersion in fantasy experiences, causing it to become the main focus of consciousness, neglecting the real world. It is often comorbid with attention deficit disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and others. It is accompanied by a deep sense of shame and requires clinicians to understand its nature before diagnosis and treatment can be initiated.
