Summary: Single-atom Ni species deposited onto TiO2/g-C3N4 composite photocatalyst with an S-scheme heterojunction achieved highly efficient photocatalytic water splitting to produce hydrogen. The formation of the S-scheme heterojunction facilitated the combination of photo-excited electrons from TiO2 with photogenerated holes at g-C3N4, while the Ni atoms acted as surface catalytic centers to enhance the reactivity of the photocatalyst. This study provides a new approach for developing noble metal-free heterojunctions for high-performance photocatalysis.

Summary: The dynamic deformation behaviors of equiatomic FeNiCrCoCu high-entropy alloys were investigated using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The study found that amorphization transformation facilitates dislocation nucleation and propagation, and different plasticity patterns are observed under different shock velocities. Moreover, a multi-level deformation mode was identified to significantly contribute to shock wave attenuation at a specific shock velocity.

Summary: This article reviews the recent progress in material damage mechanism using various in situ testing rigs compatible with laboratory and synchrotron radiation X-ray facilities. Taking metallic alloys and composites as examples, the unique advantages of in situ X-ray three-dimensional tomography in revealing complex failure mechanisms, quantifying crack growth driving forces and crack closure phenomena, and elucidating the strengthening/degrading effects from microstructure and environment on structural material degradation are demonstrated. The ongoing direction of in situ multi-scale visualization and characterization is also discussed.

Summary: This study investigates the corrosion behavior and mechanical properties of an extruded Mg-4Li-1Ca alloy under different micro-compressive stresses. The results show that micro-compressive stress can induce grain growth and precipitation of second-phase particles, accelerating the corrosion rate. However, when the stress level reaches a certain point, the volume fraction of the second phase becomes the dominant factor controlling the corrosion rate, and residual stress is released, forming corrosion product films that weaken the microstructural effect on corrosion behavior.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructures and pore defects of Invar 36 alloy manufactured using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) with different scanning speeds. The observations reveal the correlation between scanning speed and microstructure, as well as the influence on mechanical properties. In addition, the study evaluates the damage evolution and failure mechanisms through in-situ XCT tensile tests. Understanding the process-structure-property correlation lays the foundation for the widespread application of LPBF-processed Invar 36 alloy.

Summary: The obvious grain refinement of primary MnSb phase has been observed in Mn-89.7 wt% Sb alloy solidified under a high-gradient magnetic field. The refinement can be attributed to the constituent supercooling in front of the solidification interface, which promotes nucleation of the primary MnSb phase, and is linked to the enrichment of Mn solute induced by the magnetic force and the Lorentz force.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of TiN in refining gamma-austenite in additive manufacturing of 316 stainless steel and its impact on the mechanical behavior. Experimental results show that the addition of TiN nanoparticles can lead to complete columnar-to-equiaxed transition and significant grain refinement. Thermodynamic and kinetic simulations confirm that TiN promotes the heterogeneous nucleation of 8-ferrite, which in turn refines the gamma-austenite. The high grain refining efficiency of TiN nanoparticles is verified in an Fe-4 wt.%Si 8-ferrite alloy. The grain refinement not only eliminates anisotropy but also improves the strength-ductility synergy in the 316 steel.

Summary: This paper reports a comparative study on the amorphization of B2 structure of different equiatomic binary alloys. The study findings suggest that anti-site defects can cause severe random distortions to the B2 structures, leading to a decrease in crystalline ordering. Among the four alloys studied, NiTi and CuZr can be fully amorphous at a threshold concentration of anti-site defects, while AlFe and FeTi cannot. The ease of amorphization is higher in NiTi compared to CuZr, in terms of both the required defect concentration and temperature range.

Summary: The high-entropy CoCrFeMoNi alloy exhibits remarkable strength, flexibility, and corrosion resistance. This study investigates its corrosion and tribocorrosion behavior. The cold-rolled samples show enhanced corrosion resistance due to their fine-grained microstructure and elevated hardness. However, increasing annealing temperatures reduce the corrosion resistance. The tribological performance demonstrates significant tribocorrosion resistance in all high-entropy alloy samples, and the reprotective layer in the annealed samples exhibits higher resistance.
