Effect of Cr on the phase transformation and interphase nanoprecipitation behaviours of high-strength microalloyed steels

Shuai Xu, Rui Cao, Junheng Gao, Yu Zhang, Haitao Zhao, Shuize Wang, Yuhe Huang, Guilin Wu, Honghui Wu, Chaolei Zhang, Xinping Mao

Summary: In this study, the microstructures and mechanical properties of interphase precipitation strengthening micro-alloyed steels were investigated. The addition of Cr was found to increase the yield strength without significant decrease of ductility. Thermodynamics analysis revealed that the addition of Cr led to grain refinement and decrease of sheet spacing of nanoprecipitates. Calculations showed that the decrease of interphase-precipitated carbides sheet spacing and the refinement of grain size were responsible for the strength enhancement of Cr microalloyed steel.

Ronit Roy, Adil Shaik, Matthew Topping, Fei Long, Mark R. Daymond

Summary: This study demonstrates the improvements in characterizing localized dislocation distribution using the HR-EBSD method compared to the conventional approach. Two extreme examples of deformation conditions were investigated to show the efficacy of HR-EBSD in identifying dislocations and subtle features. The direct correlation between slip bands and HR-EBSD estimated GNDs is also presented, enhancing the scope of this approach in identifying individual slip bands.

Microstructure evolution and corrosion behavior of TC11 laser melt deposition additive components after post-heat treatment

Wenshan Guo, Hui Zhang, Qingjun Zhou, Guangchun Xiao, Ning Guo, Wei Zhao, Gang Wang

Summary: The microstructures and corrosion resistance of TC11 components were significantly improved using a high-power, high-speed laser metal deposition (LMD) process and subsequent post-heat treatment, with greater improvements observed in the deposition direction. The significant improvement of corrosion resistance in the deposition direction is mainly due to the weakening of the charged galvanic corrosion effect between the non-interlayer zone and interlayer zone.

Summary: This study compares the signal response of four different couplant materials in acoustic emission analysis and ultrasonic testing, and analyzes their impact on the signal response of a piezoelectric sensor. The results indicate that acrylic adhesive pads and hot glue demonstrate more reliable signal transmission in certain frequency ranges, while honey and vaseline perform better in other frequency ranges. Acrylic adhesive pads and honey are considered the preferred couplant materials.

Experimental study and evaluation on the weakening of bursting liability of coal with boreholes

Yanchun Yin, Biao Chen, Yubao Zhang, Shudong He, Chuanru Yao, Chuancheng Liu

Summary: Borehole pressure relief technology is an important method for stress control in preventing coal burst. The effect of pressure relief on energy storage and dissipation was evaluated through uniaxial compressing tests of coal specimens with different boreholes. The results showed that the diameter and number of boreholes have a negative exponential correlation with the energy characteristics of the coal specimens. Energy prerelease index, energy dissipation-increasing index, and bursting liability weakening index are proposed to better evaluate the effect of borehole pressure relief.

Experimental Study and Mechanism Analysis on Compression-Shear Behavior of Hydraulic Asphalt Concrete at Different Temperatures

Zhenpeng Yu, Qi Yang, Rui Tang, Furong Li

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical behaviors of hydraulic asphalt concrete (HAC) under combined compressive-shear stress at different temperatures and normal compressive stresses. The results show that the combination of normal compressive stress and temperature affects the peak shear stress and correlated shear strain. An increase in normal compressive stress leads to the emergence of horizontal cracks and an amplification of deformation at elevated temperatures. The peak shear stress progressively increases with an increase in normal compressive stress, but decreases with an increase in temperature. The study also establishes three modified compressive-shear failure criteria for HAC at different temperatures.
