K2P2.1 is a regulator of inflammatory cell responses in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies

Summary: K2P2.1 plays a regulatory role in the autoimmune response of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs), by regulating inflammatory cell response, adhesion, and transmigration in both endothelial and skeletal muscle cells. Inhibiting K2P2.1 enhances the inflammatory response, while activating K2P2.1 improves the disease course.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of cytokine/chemokine profiles during chronic hepatitis B virus infection and the effects of nucleotide analogues antiviral therapy on cytokine profiles. The results suggest that specific cytokines and virological markers may serve as potential indicators of different immune statuses in chronic HBV infection, while nucleotide analogues antiviral therapy has limitations in altering cytokine profiles.

Interleukin-15 alters hippocampal synaptic transmission and impairs episodic memory formation in mice

Summary: Cytokines, such as interleukin-15 (IL-15), play important roles in modulating the central nervous system (CNS). In this study, the authors found that exposure to IL-15 enhances GABA release and reduces glutamatergic currents in hippocampal slices. Chronic treatment with IL-15 has negative effects on memory formation. Serotonin is involved in mediating these effects, as a selective 5-HT3A receptor antagonist prevents the effects on inhibitory neurotransmission and improves performance in a memory test.

Summary: Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are innate immune cells that have immunomodulatory properties. They interact extensively with other innate or adaptive immune cells and can either enhance or attenuate immune responses depending on the triggering conditions. However, their positive role in host defense mechanisms is rarely discussed in the literature.

Summary: Oxidative stress may contribute to the worsening of psychosis and poor outcomes. Glutathione levels in psychosis patients are related to clinical features and spectroscopy protocols. Meta-analysis shows no difference in glutathione levels between total psychosis patients and controls, but reduced levels are seen in patients with stable schizophrenia. Additionally, older studies demonstrate greater reductions in glutathione levels.

Fibre-rich diet attenuates chemotherapy-related neuroinflammation in mice

Summary: This study demonstrates that a high fibre diet can alter gut microbiota composition and increase the production of the short-chain fatty acid propionate, thereby reducing neuroinflammation caused by the chemotherapeutic agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). The results of this study indicate that dietary fibre has neuroprotective effects in alleviating the neuroimmune changes seen in response to chemotherapy treatment, mediated through the microbiota-gut-brain axis.

Summary: Traumatic stress is associated with accelerated epigenetic age and increased risk for dementia. The advanced epigenetic age might be linked to dementia-associated biomarkers. Externalizing comorbidity is associated with accelerated epigenetic age, which in turn is associated with subsequent increases in neuropathology and inflammatory markers. Advanced epigenetic age and neuropathology biomarkers are associated with worse cognitive function.

Is Brucella excreted in cattle faeces? - Evidence from Punjab, India

Summary: Brucellosis is a neglected zoonosis that affects animals and people in the underdeveloped world. This study aimed to isolate and identify Brucella species from faeces of sero positive cattle in Punjab, India. Fourteen Brucella species were isolated, with 11 identified as Brucella abortus and 3 identified as Brucella melitensis. The study highlights the potential risk of animal faeces for animal and human health and emphasizes the need for careful handling of faeces from seropositive cattle.
