Simultaneous detection of acetamiprid and carbendazim based on Raman-silent spectral window tags-mediated surface-enhanced Raman scattering aptasensor coupled with magnetic separation

Summary: In this study, simultaneous detection of acetamiprid and carbendazim in complex sample matrix was achieved using specific Raman tag molecules and aptamer-based nanoparticles. The method showed good resistance to spectral interference and easy separation, making it a promising approach for on-site detection of hazardous substances in food safety.

An integrated centrifugal microfluidic strategy for point-of-care complete blood counting

Summary: This paper introduces an integrated portable centrifugal microfluidic system that automates cell and fluid manipulation for complete blood counting (CBC) analysis at the point-of-care (POC). The system utilizes a specially designed microfluidic disc for cell separation, solution metering and mixing, and cell counting, and is equipped with a custom script for automated quantification of cells. The proposed method shows a strong correlation with the gold standard hematology analyzer for various blood parameters. The portable system offers simplicity, affordability, and low power consumption, making it a potential solution for improving healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings and remote areas.

Optical hydrogen peroxide sensor for measurements in flow

Summary: An optical hydrogen peroxide sensor based on catalytic degradation and the detection of produced oxygen is presented. The sensor offers higher resolution and better sensitivity at lower H2O2 concentrations. By removing O2 from the sample solution, a more sensitive O2 sensor can be used for measurement. The sensor has been successfully applied in a flow-through cell to measure H2O2 concentration in different flow rates.

A biosensor using semi-DNA walker and CHA -FRET loop for ultrasensitive detection of single nucleotide polymorphism

Summary: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are important biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis. However, detecting SNPs with high specificity and sensitivity for DNA with single-base difference is challenging. This study proposes a strategy for ultrasensitive SNP detection using flap endonuclease 1 (FEN 1) manipulated semi-DNA walker reaction and catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA)-FRET loop. The strategy demonstrated superior performance for ultrasensitive detection of mutant KRAS gene and could be applied to monitor gene expression in cancer cells.

Towards cost-effective and lightweight surface plasmon resonance biosensing for H5N1 avian influenza virus detection: Integration of novel near-infrared organic photodetectors

Summary: In this study, a intensity-based SPR sensor using NIR-OPD was introduced for rapid and accurate detection of H5N1 avian influenza virus. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity with a detection limit of 4.3 x 104 copies/mL, which was 37 times higher than a commercial lateral flow test kit. The integration of NIR-OPD into the sensor provided advantages in compactness and cost-effectiveness, making it a promising tool for on-site detection of H5N1 AIV.

Ultra-sensitive trace NO2 detection based on quantum dots-sensitized few-layer MXene: A novel convincing insight into dynamic gas-sensing mechanism

Summary: In this study, quantum dots (QDs)-sensitized few-layer Ti3C2Tx was successfully applied to NO2 sensing, showing a strong response, ideal selectivity, and a low detection limit. A novel dynamic gas-sensing mechanism was proposed to explain the enhancement of sensing performance by sensitization mechanisms. These findings not only demonstrate the potential of MXene in sensing applications, but also provide a theoretical perspective for designing trace-level NO2 sensors.

A wearable and capacitive sensor for leaf moisture status monitoring

Summary: This study proposed wearable electrodes for real-time monitoring of leaf capacitance, which showed good flexibility and stability. The capacitance value was found to be positively correlated with leaf moisture content and showed higher value at night compared to daytime. The growth and physiological parameters of the plant were not significantly affected during capacitance monitoring using the wearable electrodes. These results demonstrate the potential of wearable electrodes for real-time and precise monitoring of plant physiological information in the future.

Summary: In this study, a DNA aptamer-based thermo-responsive magnetic particle (TM) assay was developed as a simple and sensitive protein detection system. The research demonstrated that the modification of aptamers on TM successfully controlled the aggregation behavior and enabled the detection of target proteins. By using capturable aptamers, the sensitivity and limit of detection of the TM assay were improved.

Highly sensitive and selective nanoengineered PtO2-BNNT heterostructures for ppb level ammonia gas sensing

Summary: In this study, boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) decorated PtO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were used to form a heterojunction for enhancing the room temperature gas sensing towards dry NH3 gas. The integration of PtO2 NPs onto BNNTs provides a synergistic effect, enabling enhanced NH3 sensing capabilities with low detection limit and short response time, as well as good resistance against humidity and long-term stability.

Summary: In this study, a strategy for detecting hepatocellular cancer biomarkers was developed. This strategy involved the coupling of a 6-carboxyfluorescein labelled aptamer, reduced graphene oxide, DNase I-assisted recycling amplification, and microfluidic electrokinetic stacking chip. The method demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity in detecting multiple biomarkers simultaneously, and was successfully applied to clinical serum samples.

Gas-responsive two-dimensional metal-organic framework composites for trace visualization of volatile organic compounds

Summary: This study developed a colorimetric sensor array using gas-responsive two-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) composites for highly sensitive detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The dye/Zn-2(bim)(4) composites-based sensor arrays showed enhanced sensitivity and anti-interference properties. The findings demonstrate the potential use of dye/Zn-2(bim)(4) sensor arrays for early perception of plant diseases.

The sensor exhibits high sensitivity in detecting EV binding and shows great potential for diagnosing cancer patients.

Flexible enzyme-like platform based on a 1-D CeVO4/2-D rGO-MCC heterostructure as sensor for the detection of intracellular superoxide anions

Summary: In this study, a novel ternary composite material was constructed by assembling cerium vanadate nanorods on reduced graphene oxide-microcrystalline cellulose nanosheets, and it was used for real-time monitoring of the concentration of superoxide anions in vivo. The ternary composite showed excellent conductivity, large surface area, and abundant active sites, leading to a wider linear range, high sensitivity, low detection limit, and fast response time for superoxide anion detection.

Visualized time-temperature monitoring by triplet-sensitized ratiometric fluorescent nanosensors

Summary: In this study, a novel TTI based on a ratiometric fluorescent nanosensor is designed, which has the advantages of high accuracy and low cost. Experimental and theoretical investigations confirm its pH responsiveness and demonstrate its good sensitivity and reliability. By monitoring the total volatile basic nitrogen, this TTI can accurately predict food spoilage and can be adaptively modified for different types of food. The TTI based on this nanosensor enables visual monitoring of food quality.
