Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility and efficacy of leucine supplementation in offsetting immune dysfunction in sarcopenia. The results showed that leucine supplementation not only improved muscle mass and restored mitochondrial respiratory function, but also reduced inflammation levels. These findings are important for the rational design and optimization of leucine supplementation in patients with sarcopenia and autoimmune diseases.

Summary: The electrochemical properties of three oxazine fluorophores, ATTO655, ATTO680 and ATTO700, were investigated on gold electrodes. These fluorophores exhibit reversible or quasi-reversible voltammetric behavior depending on the pH. ATTO655, in particular, showed promising performance as a redox label for electrochemical nucleic acid sensing without affecting DNA folding. Hybridization experiments showed significant signal variation between single-stranded DNA and double-stranded DNA.

Summary: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive and fatal lung disease of unknown cause. Decreased expression of ACSS3 in IPF patients and mice with fibrosis was found, leading to the accumulation of lipid droplets and increased glycolysis. ACSS3 regulates the activity of alveolar epithelial cells through metabolic reprogramming, potentially serving as a therapeutic target for pulmonary fibrosis.

Summary: This study investigates the role of RLIP76 in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) by analyzing brain tissues from AD patients and control subjects. The findings show a gradual decrease in the expression of RLIP76 protein with AD progression, and its co-localization with Amyloid beta and phosphorylated tau. AD patients exhibited higher levels of lipid peroxidation, H2O2 production, and oxidative DNA damage, as well as lower ATP production compared to controls. COMET assay revealed numerous DNA strand breaks in AD patients. These results indicate that RLIP76 plays an important role in maintaining neuronal health and homeostasis, and could be a promising therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease.

Summary: This study analyzed the toxic effects of Roundup Transorb (R) on the endangered Neotropical annual killifish Austrolebias charrua by evaluating molecular and biochemical biomarkers. The findings showed that exposure to Roundup significantly increased the production of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage in the fish's blood cells. It also decreased membrane fluidity. Gene expression analysis revealed alterations in genes associated with oxidative stress and antioxidant defense. This study provides new insights into adaptive mechanisms of A. charrua in response to Roundup, and it has important implications for environmental monitoring and aquatic toxicology assessment.

Summary: The E93 gene was identified and found to be widely distributed in adult tissues of the swimming crab. The expression levels of PtE93 mRNA in Y-organ and epidermis fluctuated during the molt cycle, suggesting its involvement in juvenile molting. Treatment with 20E induced PtE93 expression, while treatment with MF showed the opposite effect. The study also observed a negative correlation between PtE93 and ecdysteroid biosynthesis genes.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of polyethylene glycol-(PEG) modified lipids and gangliosides on the Ca2+ induced interaction between liposomes composed of palmitoyl-oleoyl phosphatidylethanolamine (POPE) and palmitoyl-oleoyl phosphatidylserine (POPS) at physiological ionic strength. The results show that naked liposomes tend to adhere, rupture, and collapse on each other's surfaces upon addition of Ca2+, eventually resulting in the formation of large multilamellar aggregates and bilayer sheets. However, the presence of gangliosides or PEGylated lipids leads to the formation of small, long-lived bilayer fragments/disks. PEGylated lipids seem to be more effective than gangliosides at stabilizing these structures. The study suggests that direct liposome-liposome fusion is not the dominating process triggered by Ca2+ in the systems studied.

Summary: In this study, the phytochemical analysis of Asparagus lycopodineus was conducted for the first time, leading to the isolation of 14 compounds. Among them, five compounds have never been found in the Asparagus genus before. Additionally, the results highlight the close evolutionary relationship among A. lycopodineus, A. cochinchinensis, and A. filicinus.
