Pressure versus volume-controlled ventilation with BASKA mask airway in laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A randomized clinical study

Amani H. Abdel-Wahab, Radwan A. Torky

Summary: This study investigated the ventilatory performance of Baska masks in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anaesthesia and pneumoperitoneum. The results showed that patients ventilated with pressure-controlled ventilation mode had lower peak inflation pressure and PaCO2 levels but higher dynamic compliance and leak fraction. Both ventilation modes provided effective Baska mask ventilation and maintained oropharyngeal leak pressure throughout the procedure.

Precision medicine as a predictive factor for risk of hospitalization of recurrent ischemic stroke patients treated with low dose aspirin. A pilot study

Eman AlHussain. A. Gawad, Mevidette El Madani, Hanan Mostafa, Radwa Marwan Abdel Halim

Summary: Most epidemiological studies have underestimated the risk of recurrent ischemic stroke after transient ischemic attack due to the lack of a standard definition for recurrent stroke. This study aimed to investigate the association of CYP2C9*3 (Rs1057910) polymorphism and other risk factors with aspirin intolerance in patients with recurrent ischemic stroke. The results showed that smoking and the heterozygous A/C of Rs1057910 had a higher prevalence but statistically insignificant risk for stroke recurrence compared to other risk factors. There was a borderline statistically significant correlation between stroke prognosis and TNF-alpha as an inflammatory mediator. Further research on a larger sample size population is recommended.

Effectiveness of C-MAC video-stylet versus C-MAC D-blade video-laryngoscope for tracheal intubation in patients with predicted difficult airway: Randomized comparative study

Yasser Mohamed Osman, Rehab Abd El-Raof Abd El-Aziz

Summary: This study compares the application of C-MAC video-stylet and D-blade video-laryngoscope in tracheal intubation for patients with suspected difficult airway. The results show that the intubation time is significantly shorter with C-MAC video-stylet compared to D-blade video-laryngoscope, and the increase in heart rate and mean arterial blood pressure after intubation is more significant with D-blade video-laryngoscope. Different devices should be chosen based on the patient's condition.

Sameh Salem Hafny Taha, Beshoy Eshak Aziz Hanna, Gamal Eldin Mohammad Ahmed Elewa, Hadil Magdy Abd Elhamid Mohamed, Dalia Fahmy Emam Ali, Mohamed MoienMohamed Elsaid

Summary: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of single-injection US-guided ESPB and SAPB for postoperative analgesia following VATS, with the time until the first analgesic requirement as the main evaluation criterion. The secondary endpoints included adverse effects and total analgesic requirement within the first 24 hours post-operation. The results showed that the SAPB group had a significantly faster time until the first analgesic requirement, but a higher postoperative pethidine requirement compared to the ESPB group. Therefore, US-directed ESPB provides better pain management after VATS.
