Amr Ragheb Hieba, Emad Abdelmoenam Arida, Hassan Aly Hassan Osman, Salma Alaa El Din Mostafa Imbaby, Heba Abdel Hamid Ahmed Moharem

Summary: This study aimed to demonstrate the effect of COVID-19 on markers of endothelial shedding and its effect on patient morbidity and mortality. The results showed that patients with severe symptoms had higher levels of syndecan-1 and heparan sulfate, and there was an association between markers of endothelial shedding with thrombotic and cardiovascular complications. Syndecan-1 and heparan sulfate may be used as good indicators to monitor COVID-19 activity.

Assessment of early paediatric airway sequelae after using cuffed or uncuffed endotracheal tubes with ultrasound and flexible endoscopy

Mohammed Nassef Elsayed, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Attar, Emad Eldin Abd Elmonem Arida, Aliaa Rabia Abd Elaziz

Summary: This study aimed to compare the early airway changes in paediatrics using Cuffed tracheal tubes (CTT) and uncuffed tracheal tubes (UTT), and to investigate the correlation between endoscopic and ultrasonographic findings in detecting post intubation sequelae. Results showed that the rate of tube exchange was significantly lower in the CTT group, but there were no significant differences in subglottic diameter changes, incidence of stridor, laryngospasm and croup, and occurrence of airway injuries between the two groups. There was a positive correlation between subglottic diameter changes and airway injury prevalence. Short-term endotracheal intubation did not affect the incidence or severity of airway injuries. Using the external diameter of the endotracheal tube is crucial for proper sizing in paediatrics.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effects of combined TTP and RSP blocks on postoperative pain and fast-track extubation in cardiac surgery patients. The results showed that combined TTP and RSP blocks can reduce intraoperative opioid consumption, accelerate extubation time, and improve hemodynamic parameters. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in postoperative opioid use and VAS pain scores.
