Summary: Through 3D finite element analysis and study of mandibles from various tyrannosaurid genera, it was found that smaller juvenile and subadult tyrannosaurs experienced higher simulated stresses in the lower jaw. In adult tyrannosaurs, mandible strength increased with ontogeny and showed an evolutionary trend of enhancement. These results may indicate different predatory strategies used by juvenile and mature tyrannosaurids.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical outcomes of using nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (NHA) graft for periodontal intrabony lesions compared to open flap debridement (OFD) alone. The results showed that NHA graft provided better clinical outcomes in terms of clinical attachment level gain and probing pocket depth reduction compared to OFD alone. However, there were no significant benefits of NHA graft in gingival recession changes. Future research with larger samples and longer follow-up periods are warranted to further investigate the use of NHA graft in periodontal regenerative therapy.

Summary: This article traces the origin of the tangential expansion of the primate neocortex to ancestral cores in reptiles and mammals and proposes the Hypothesis on the Dual Origin of the Neocortex. The study analyzes the neocortex of rats, Rhesus macaques, and humans and proposes hypotheses on homology of cortical areas. The updated version of the hypothesis explains the emergence of cortical hierarchies in mammals and guides future research on the origin of neocortical areas.

Summary: Microglia, the resident immune cells of the central nervous system, are generated from progenitors in the yolk sac during early embryonic stages and colonize brain structures through migration and proliferation. Despite being a minor population in the developing cortex, microglia interact with neural lineage cells through filopodia extension and migration. Their distribution in the developing brain changes in a stage-dependent manner, playing roles in regulating neurogenesis and neuronal circuit formation.

Summary: This meta-analysis investigated the prevalence and characteristics of the thyroid ima artery, finding it to be 3.8% with associations to age, region, and publication year. The study showed a decline in the prevalence of the thyroid ima artery in adults over time, which has significant clinical implications for tracheostomy.

Summary: Preventing postmortem deterioration of soft-tissues is essential for anatomical research. This study found that short-term freezing has minimal effects on muscle mass and density, while formalin fixation and ethanol storage significantly reduce mass and volume. Freezing may cause less distortion to muscle morphology than ethanol storage, but it can damage muscle microanatomy. Based on the results, correction factors were derived for different preparation methods.

Summary: The brain structural features of healthy individuals are associated with olfactory functions. Different structural characteristics may be exhibited in congenital and acquired anosmia due to pathophysiological differences. A systematic review compared brain structural features between patients with congenital and acquired anosmia, finding consistent associations between olfactory bulb volume and olfactory function across etiologies, but inconsistent associations with olfactory sulcus depth. The review observed morphological variations in grey matter and white matter volume in congenital and acquired anosmia, suggesting that the structural characteristics in these two conditions are altered differently, likely due to multifactorial mechanisms and interactions with the environment.

Summary: This study explores the evolution of epistemological methodologies in anatomy from ancient times to the present day, tracing the methods used in ancient Egypt, Greece, India, China, Rome, Europe, Middle Ages, Renaissance Europe, and the introduction of modern technology-based methods in the 21st century. The emphasis on ethics in epistemological methodologies has been limited throughout history, but recent developments show a positive trend in addressing this issue.
