Electrogenic Na+ transport across high resistance epithelial is mediated by the epithelial Na+ channel (ENaC). Our understanding of the mechanisms of ENaC regulation has continued to evolve over the two decades following the cloning of ENaC subunits. This review highlights many of the cellular and extracellular factors that regulate channel trafficking or gating. (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier Inc.
