A novel, rapid, inexpensive, and highly efficient convergent approach has been developed for the synthesis of a 32-amine-terminated G3 polyamide dendrimer by the hydrolysis of the dendrimer with trifluoroacetamide groups. The resulting dendrimer could be successfully modified with oligo(ethylene glycol) chains at its periphery to afford a novel water-soluble polyamide dendrimer. The structural homogeneity of the clendrimers was confirmed by NMR and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopies. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
