We investigate complex spatio-temporal dynamics in the framework of a generic model describing nonlinear semiconductor or electrochemical systems with S-shaped current-voltage characteristics. Global time-delayed feedback control is applied to stabilize unstable spatio-temporal patterns which are created in a subcritical Hopf bifurcation. This demonstrates the invalidity of the alleged odd-number limitation of time-delayed feedback control in systems with spatial degrees of freedom.
