The proposed structure of trocheliophorolide D was synthesized, and the NMR spectra of the synthetic compound proved to be inconsistent with those of the natural product. Our synthesis features the construction of the 2-butenolide moiety by using an aldol strategy and assembly of the triyne system during the final stage of the synthesis.
