Cyclometalated Pt-II complexes that show strong visible-light absorption and long-lived triplet excited states were used as efficient singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) sensitizers for the photooxidation of 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN). The photooxidation velocity of the cyclometalated Pt-II complex is 4.4 times that of the conventional Ir-III complex triplet photosensitizers that do not show strong absorption of visible light.
