Due to global warming, environmental concerns play an important role in the generation and use of energy, especially electricity, compared with other forms of energy, not only for developing countries but also the world. Turkey is one of the developing countries and the demand of electricity has increased in the last few years and is expected to continue in the future. The main energy sources for electricity generation are based on fossil fuels, lignite, hard coal, and hydro. Lignite- and hard coal-based power plants have been commonly used in Turkey. Although these power plants provide an efficient way for generating electricity with low cost, emissions of green house gases, especially carbon monoxide gas are very high. In this study, a multidimensional analysis of electricity generation options with different scenarios in Turkey is accomplished by using a modified technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method. Efficiency, installation cost, electricity cost and emission of the carbon dioxide gas criteria, which are commonly used in evaluation of electricity generation options, are taken into consideration.
