A simple hollow-structured artificial catalyst in situ formed from CdTe QDs and CoCl2 center dot 6H(2)O in aqueous ascorbic acid solution has shown exceptional activity and stability for photocatalytic H-2 evolution (25 mu mol h(-1) mg(-1), 219 100 mol H-2 per mol QDs or 59 600 mol H-2 per mol Co turnovers, respectively) under visible light irradiation for 70 h.
