We report an enzyme-modified nanoporous gold (NPG) biosensor with excellent sensitivity and selectivity towards the detection of glucose in the physiological environment containing common interferents. The internal surface of biocompatible NPG films is functionalized with glucose oxidase using thiols as linking molecules. The three-dimensional porous metal/organic hybrid electrode exhibits effective enzyme immobilization and peroxide detection on gold ligaments for amperometric glucose sensing. This study has important implications in developing NPG based metal/organic electrodes for electrochemical sensors with high selectivity and sensitivity. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
