Polycrystalline Al wires were successfully electrodeposited on W, Pt, GC, and Al substrates from the Lewis acidic AlCl3/trimethylamine hydrochloride ionic liquid without using a template. Two key points for the fabricating Al wires are the use of a quiescent solution and low temperature (30 degrees C). The deposited Al wire were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The deposition of wire-structure could be due to the change of double layer structure during deposition. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
