We report significant electrochemical performance improvement for micron size TiSnSb negative electrode material for Li-ion batteries when formulated with the carboxymethyl cellulose binder and carbon nanofibres and cycled in fluoro ethylene containing electrolyte. It displays a high capacity of approximately 600 mAh g(-1), a cycle life of more than 400 cycles, and satisfactory rate capability with a capacity of 250 mAh g(-1) even at a rate of 4 Lithium per unit formula in half an hour. TiSnSb could favourably compete with silicon if the practical gravimetric capacity is considered. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
