In this work we disclose a novel lithium ion battery based on a bulk iron oxide, alfa-Fe2O3, anode and a lithium iron phosphate, LiFePO4, cathode which are low cost and environmental compatible materials. The preliminary results here reported suggest that this unique battery may be highly competitive with other power sources especially in terms of cost and reliability. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V.
