Transition metal oxides (TMOs) have been studied as electrode materials in PEM fuel cells. We have investigated the electrochemical properties of nickel oxide (NiO) and titanium oxide (TiO2) mixed with carbon-supported platinum (Pt/C) as electrocatalyst using steady-state voltage-current density measurements with various fuels. We found that in each case studied, the performance of TiO2 and NiO with Pt/C catalyst is higher than for the Pt/C electrocatalyst alone. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
