A novel porous sulfur cathode in which a gelatin was used as the binder was prepared by using a freeze-drying method at -58 degrees C. The porous structure provides channels for electrolyte infiltration and then facilitates ion diffusion. This porous sulfur cathode has a high initial capacity of 1235 mAh g(-1) and a high reversible capacity of 626 mAh g(-1) after 50 cycles, both of which are higher than that of the normal cathodes with compact structures.
