Ba3Bi(PO4)(3):Eu3+ red phosphor was synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction, and its photoluminescence properties were investigated. It is observed from the emission spectra excited at 393 and 464 nm that Ba3Bi1-x(PO4)(3):xEu(3+) (0.05 <= x <= 0.40) phosphors have dominating emission peaks at 610 nm. The integral intensity of the emission spectrum of Ba3Bi0.75(PO4)(3):0.25Eu(3+) excited at 393 nm is about twice as strong as that of Y2O3:Eu3+ commercial red phosphor, although a little weaker when excited at 464 nm. The good color saturation and the high quantum efficiency make it a potential candidate for white light-emitting diodes. (C) 2010 The Electrochemical Society.
