Lithium electrochemistry of Cr(1-x)Fe(x)N (0 <= x <= 1) ternary transition-metal nitrides has been investigated for the first time. The reversible capacities of Cr(1-x)Fe(x)N ternary transition-metal nitrides were all above 1000 mAh/g, and their electrodes overcame the large polarization of CrN electrode and the bad cyclic stable of FeN electrode, which made them promising candidates for lithium-ion battery anode. Our results demonstrated that the reversible formation and decomposition of Li(3)N could be driven by nanosized metal Fe or Cr. (C) 2008 The Electrochemical Society.
