Voltammetric behavior of methotrexate (MTX), an important chemotherapeutic drug, has been investigated using electrochemical methods: cyclic voltammetry, direct current voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry on a mercury meniscus modified silver solid amalgam electrode (m-AgSAE). The obtained results have been compared with those obtained using a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE). The optimal conditions for its determination have been found in a Britton-Robinson buffer of pH 5 with the limit of detection equal to 1.8 nM. RSD at this concentration level amounted to less than 4%. The proposed procedure of determination was verified on a real drug containing MTX.
