Synthesis, isolation and characterization of diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) dimers are described. These derivatives were prepared starting from symmetric or asymmetric DPP monomers through Pd-catalyzed homocoupling, Yamamoto coupling or Suzuki coupling. The spectroscopic properties of these newly synthesized DPP dimers were investigated and were supported by quantum-chemical calculations. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
