A new study by Arany et al. demonstrates that the metabolic master regulator peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR gamma) coactivator-1 alpha (PGC-1 alpha) can promote angiogenesis. These findings show that alterations in metabolic homeostasis are linked to angiogenesis, which raises exciting opportunities for novel proangiogenic and antiangiogenic therapies in various diseases.
