Photochemical single-crystal to single-crystal transformation of one 1D polymer [Cd(bpe)(CBA)(2)](n) afforded a new 1D polymer [Cd(rctt-tpcb)(0.5)(CBA)(2)](n) which underwent hydrothermal reaction in strong acidic solution to form a 3D coordination polymer {[Cd(rtct-tpcb)Cl-2]center dot 2H(2)O}(n).
