Present paper reports the synthesis and electrical, morphological, thermal, structural and optical characterization of polyaniline doped with Selenium. Polyaniline was synthesized by chemical oxidation using ammonium peroxodisulphate as an oxidizing agent. This was doped with different concentrations of Selenium. DC conductivity measurements on the polymer have been carried out in the temperature range 300-450 K. The results show increase in the conductivity by three orders of magnitude after doping. Scanning Electron microscopy (SEM) has also been carried out for surface morphology studies. Thermal and structural properties are also studied by DSC and FTIR spectroscopy. DSC gives information about T-g and T-c. UV-Vis spectroscopy is used to study the optical properties. UV-Vis studies which reveal that the band gap decreases on increasing the concentration of dopant. (C) 2010 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.
