The assembly of charge-neutral mixed-valent coordination clusters [(Mn2Mn4O2)-Mn-III-O-II(RCOO)(10)] (R = CHMe2, CMe3) and rigid isonicotinamide or semi-rigid aldrithiol-4 exo-bridging ligands results in (4,4) layers and a 2D bilayer containing an unprecedented type of cluster-based 'T-shaped' motif.
