Two coordination compounds, Cu(pim) (1) and Cu-2(ppt)center dot 1.5H(2)O (2) (Hpim = 2-(4-pyridyl)-imidazole, H(2)ppt = 5-(4-pyridyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol), based on ligands with a T-shaped structural unit were reported here. 1 presents a 2D layer network, whereas 2 shows a MOF containing a 1D tubular channel, which are constructed utilizing a similar unit to the 2D layer in 1, representing a new strategy to construct tubular frameworks. Furthermore, basic properties such as photoluminescence and gas adsorption have been investigated as well.
