A facile PEG-200 assisted solution route for the synthesis of single-crystalline alpha-Fe2O3 nanobelts (20-40 nm in width, hundreds of nanometres in length) at 85 degrees C for 30 min has been developed. Electrochemical studies indicate the synthesized alpha-Fe2O3 nanobelts exhibit excellent discharge and charge capacities of 1068 mAh g(-1) and 701 mAh g(-1), which allow them to be a potential candidate for capacitor application.
