A novel coordination polymer [NaMn2(dmdn)(3)(H2O)(6)]center dot 4.5H(2)O (dmdn = 6,6'-dimercaptodinicotinate) (1) was prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction along with powder XRD, IR, elemental analyses and magnetic analyses. Compound 1, featuring a rarely reported 2-fold interpenetrated (4(6),6(9))-hxg network based on the wheel-like clusters ligated by the in situ generated dmdn ligands as the six-connected approximately planar nodes, was obtained by slow evaporation of mna (mna = 6-mercaptonicotinic acid) and NaOH with MnCl2 center dot 4H(2)O in distilled water at room temperature. In addition, the magnetic property of 1 has also been investigated in detail.
