A 1D pencil shaped organometallic coordination polymer, [Ag-2(mu(5)-TPOAc)(2)](n) (1) [TPOAc- = triphenylacetate], has been synthesized and characterized and its structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. There are two types of Ag+ ions, which form strong eta(2) Ag2-C pi bonds, two weak eta(1) Ag1 center dot center dot center dot C pi interactions and strong Ag-Ag interactions, resulting in the formation of C-2 center dot center dot center dot Ag1O(3)Ag(2) and Ag2O(3)C(2)Ag(2) moieties with very interesting structures. In addition we prepared metal coordination nano-polymers (MCNPs) of compound 1 by ultrasonic process where pyrolysis of compound 1 nanorods, as a template, result in silver nanofibers.
