A flexible tetrapodal octacarboxylate ligand with four 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate units has been used to construct three polyhedral metal-organic frameworks, which show a (4,8)-connected structure of a rare scu topology comprising octahedral and cuboctahedral cages.
