Recently, the development of clean sustainable energy conversion and storage technologies to deal with environmental pollution and the forthcoming energy crisis has attracted much attention in the energy research community and coordination chemistry has played a key role in this very active research field. Metal coordination materials are known as one of the best active materials for high-performance super capacitors due to their outstanding specific capacitance, long cycle life, and good electrochemical reversibility. This review mainly introduces the synthesis of metal coordination materials (metal-organic frameworks, Prussian blue, polyoxometalates, oxalate, their composites and derivatives) with the focus on their application in supercapacitors.
