This work presents approaches for the description of the microstructure evolution in a C-Mn micro-alloyed steel using cellular automata (CA) during thermo-mechanical treatment. The developed probabilistic-based model integrates the effects of the individual metallurgical phenomena related to the hot rolling process, such as hot deformation, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) and precipitation state, where the retarding effect of precipitates is considered. The precipitation kinetics of (Nb, Ti)(C, N) is simulated by means of the software package MatCalc. The results are validated by experimental data obtained by transmission electron microscopy. The simulations are directly applicable to the optimization of both, microstructure and properties, in the production of the tested steels. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
