The complete process of linear friction welding of Ti6Al2Sn4Cr6M0 in two conditions (beta- and alpha + beta-forged) was simulated using the Finite Element Method. A full structural-thermal coupled transient 3D-analysis was conducted. Two different industry-relevant geometries of contact area (prismatic and blade like) were chosen. The axial shortening-time dependences were calculated. The results are analysed and compared with experimental data including microstructure and hardness profiles. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V.
