An experiment was carried out to evaluate the change of colour appearance of samples under a reference illuminant and four light-emitting diode light sources. The results were used to evaluate the present CIE colour rendering index and other calculation methods. It was found that the present colour rendering index did not predict the visual data accurately. An index based on CAM02-UCS embedded with a reliable chromatic adaptation transform and a uniform colour space gave the best performance.
