Oblique prism-like Bi2O3 have been synthesized via a simple one-step aqueous method at low temperature and ambient pressure in the presence of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). The oblique prism-like Bi2O3 have better distribution with an average diameter of 2 mu m and length of up to tens of micrometers. X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) indicate that oblique prism-like Bi2O3 are monoclinic phase with high purity. The optical absorption and photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of the prepared sample were investigated. The formation mechanism has also been discussed based on experimental results.
