Childhood and adult obesity have increased rapidly over the past 30 years. In 2009, 31.4% of the boys and 28.2% of the girls in England were either overweight or obese. 1 While adult obesity is linked to diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as is currently being seen in clinics, the unknown risks for obese children are causing concern. Will this generation of obese children end up with far higher rates of cardiovascular disease at a far earlier age than the generation before them?
